My partner and I are architects, and we have renovated a 1950s ex-council house. We aimed to preserve the charm and character of the original layout while introducing new openings that create fresh perspectives and a greater sense of openness throughout the flat. We have also kept the material palette deliberately simple, using restrained finishes and touches of primary colour as a subtle nod to its 1950s origins.
